I have the same question I left that running overnight, but it remained the next morning. I then tried all the F8 options. The "Repair Your Computer" option as a regular user indicated there was no problem, but when I tried starting the system it ended up in the "Please wait.. I also tried to use the Administrator option, but it indicated the password, which I had successfully used earlier, was incorrect; not sure if this is related to the problem.
All the other F8 options brought me right back to the "Please wait I then tried to boot from a repair disk, but this again resulted in the "Please wait As I can't get to the start menu, the system restore and other options are not available. I have seen machines hang because they are trying to reconnect to network drives that may or may not be responding to the requests.
If you remove the network cable it will detect that there is no connection and skip this. Yes Tried that you can log in then restart but still does not let you back on the domain. It still comes up please wait or if you can login you get Welcome and it hangs.
I would boot it into safe mode and restore to an early point. I had this same issue on a machine and restored it to date a couple weeks prior and worked as intended. Not sure if a windows update went bad or what had happened.
Not sure if you are concerned with losing something that had been recently saved but it would save you some time restoring to an early point. We have tried muliple restore dates but nothing worked. We are are on Domain so don't know if that has a differance effect. Robert, at this point I don't think any of us can be of much help as you aren't providing enough information to assist you in troubleshooting.
