One might argue that the limitation is on the calculator, not in the program, but in that case, why even worry with the broken calculator at all? I did exactly the same thing as this answer but just cannot prove it mathematically. Can someone explain these to me, please? Why won't the BFS solution work in this problem? Also, how to distinguish when to use BFS or a greedy method as in this case?
