Air Force Officers are evaluated on their leadership potential, moral standards and academic strengths. Each candidate must go through a selective process to ensure they meet our requirements and have what it takes to become an officer. Every officer application is reviewed by the Officer Training School Selection Board, which evaluates both objective and subjective factors to determine if a candidate is a proper fit. ROTC offers both scholarship and no-scholarship programs. Upon completing your college degree and your ROTC program, you will be commissioned into your branch of service.
Some branches also offer programs that will allow you to leave active duty early to enroll in a college degree program and an ROTC program. Students may not pay the difference to attend higher-cost schools. The SOAR scholarship program includes an annual textbook allowance and a monthly nontaxable stipend.
